Acne
Acne is one of the most common skin disorders, actually a disease or medical condition just like the flu or chicken pox and treatments are available to fight it.
There are many forms of Acne, the most common one being Acne vulgaris. It affects approximately 90% of all adolescents, and 50% of adult women. Acne vulgaris is what most people think of when they think of spots and zits. It is a clogging of the hair follicles that leads to unsightly, and sometimes painful, skin lesions and pimples. It ranges in degree from mild to severe and, at its most severe, it can cause scarring.
Other forms of Acne include Acne conglobata, Acne cosmetica, Acne fulminans, Acne medicamentosa, Acne rosacea, Comedonal acne, Comedones, Cysts, Cystic acne.
The best acne treatments work by reducing symptoms and preventing scarring.
Oral Treatments
Oral antibiotics are used to treat acne. Antibiotics reduce both the symptoms and the chances of scarring by attacking the bacterial infections in inflamed skin. Other acne medications reduce the amount of oil produced by the skin. Anti-androgen medications counter the effects of the male hormone androgen, which contributes to enlarged skin pores and skin oil production. Oral treatments for Acne may have side effects and must not be consumed without the advice of a certified Dermatologist.
